7 Ways Our Brain Works Without Instruction

The brain is debatably the most important organ humans need to live. Sure, the heart pumps blood and helps us breathe, and HAS to work for us to be considered ‘alive’, but in the occasion that a person’s braid has stopped working, but their heart is still pumping, I wouldn’t necessary say that that person is alive, just that they are… existing.

Our brain controls all of our muscles, sending signals to all parts of our body to move, to stay still, to do anything. It also gives us the ability to think, to analyze and to make important decisions. There are things that we consciously think about and our brains make it happen. And then there are things that our brains work without prompt, subconsciously. A few of those automatic responses are discussed in this list.

Keeping our Balance

We rarely thinking about maintaining our balance consciously as we walk, it’s something that comes to us naturally. But have we ever thought about WHY it comes so naturally? Well, it’s because of all the hard work put in by your brain. It uses the sensory input it receives through many of the organs in our body like eyes, ears, muscles, joints, and vestibular organs to make sense of our surroundings and to work out the best way to keep us on our feet. It coaches our feet about the amount of pressure needed when walking in different areas, to put more pressure on one feet when we lean forward or backward.

Filtering information

Every second of every minute of every hour of every day, we are being swamped by hundreds of thousands of pieces of information. You might not always be aware of everything that is going on around you, especially when you are focused on something. You probably couldn’t recall simple details of things that you saw or heard.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that your memory is failing you- it simply means that you were so focused on the task at hand, your brain processed all this information and filtered them as unnecessary. through a process called selective attention. This allows you to concentrate what’s most important and prevents you from being overwhelmed. Similarly, some information is subconsciously processed so that even if we are not focusing on it, we pick up on it.
