7 Actions to Avoid to Make Sure You Start Your Day Right

Make your bed as soon as you get up

Yeah, yeah, I know! But trust me, making your bed as soon as you get out of bed might seem like the most annoying thing to do first thing in the morning, but it will set in motion your ability to be productive and get things done the rest of the day.

There’s a time and place for everything; even coffee!

Who doesn’t love a good cup of coffee to start their day off, right? Well, it might be time to reconsider if you are in the habit of drinking coffee before 9:30 a.m. This is because between 8-9 is the time our body produces a hormone called cortisol, which helps regulate energy throughout the day. If you drink coffee before this happens, then less cortisol is produced, which means your internal battery may run out way faster.

Give your morning a bright start

Our subconscious makes note of the level of light as soon as we wake up. This means that if you wake up in the dark, your body might be tricked into thinking it’s still night and you’ll feel tired and sleepy. Open the curtains up and let that sunlight stream in. Or if you are waking up before the sun is up, then make sure to turn on a bright light.

Humans have limited willpower, don’t waste it!

If you wake up and are unsure of what you need to do, you will tend to spend more time doing things than you need to, which will set the tone for the rest of the day. Instead, make a routine (wake up, stretch, shower, have breakfast, etc.) Making a habit of things is a good idea, and makes your body run on autopilot. Scientists say your willpower is limited, and saving your willpower on a set routine, will leave you plenty to tackle the rest of the day.
